International Experts Assess Uganda's Uranium Exploration Potential
An international team of experts, led by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), has conducted a comprehensive evaluation of Uganda's capacity to develop a uranium exploration program. The mission focused on 16 key areas, including human resource capacity, regulatory framework, and technical capabilities. With only 50% of Ugandans currently having access to electricity, the government aims to increase this to 99% by 2030 and integrate nuclear energy into its energy mix starting in 2031.

This, in turn, would support the country's ambitious energy goals and contribute to economic growth. By integrating uranium into its energy mix, Uganda aims to diversify its energy sources, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and enhance energy security. The international team's evaluation marks an important step towards realizing these objectives, positioning Uganda to become a key player in the global nuclear energy landscape.
